The da Vinci Surgical System will be displayed this month at the American Cancer Society's annual forum on prostate cancer.
The free forum will be held Saturday, July 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Mary Washington Hospital.
Dr. Gregory Szlyk, a Fredericksburg urologist, will demonstrate the use of the $1.6 million robot.
Szlyk is the director of robotics at Mary Washington. He uses the da Vinci to remove cancerous prostate glands through small incisions. The Fredericksburg hospital purchased the da Vinci system in 2007.
Other speakers at the forum include:
Dr. Tristan Berry, a Richmond urologist, who will provide an overview of prostate cancer.
Kristen Park, a respiratory therapist, who will talk about rehabilitation after prostate cancer surgery.
Carolyn Foster, who will talk about the American Cancer Society's services.
In addition to the Cancer Society, the forum is sponsored by Mary Washington Hospital and Urology Associates of Fredericksburg, a local doctors' group.

Does anybody know why this new asset to the Fredericksburg area (the 1.6 million dollar daVinci Surgical System) is not also being used for cardiac surgeries?
